An astonishing video of Air Force Colonel Joseph Kittinger skydiving from an altitude of 102,800 feet (19.5 miles). This is a video for the Boards of Canada song Dayvan Cowboy but the first couple minutes are actual footage from Kittinger’s amazing jump.
Mirrormask is a great bit of eye candy from Neil Gaiman, Dave McKean and The Jim Henson Company. A wonderfully weird trip…but the crown jewel of the film is this scene where the Queen’s robots make over the lead character into a good little bad girl while singing a creepy/quirky/cool rendition of Close To You. Josefine Cronholm does the vocals.
K-PAX is a gem of a film and is surprisingly little-known, considering the stature of its stars—Kevin Spacey and Jeff Bridges—who both do amazing work here. The charming, philosophical story becomes quite psychological and rather nail-biting by the latter half of the film. I love the idea of the “three tasks” that Prot assigns to one of the patients who resides at the center and thought the use of Elton John’s Rocket Man at Prot’s going-away party was absolutely spot-on. The original soundtrack by Edward Shearmur is wonderful, and you also might want to check out Gene Brewer’s original book (there are several sequels, too).
Star Trek Eternal, a very nicely done mash-up video by filmmaker Robert Meyer Burnett. From what I can gather, it has clips from all the Star Trek shows and movies except for Enterprise (the video was made in 1996 before Enterprise aired) and the animated series.
A wonderful German commercial that rates as a brilliant bit of advertising and a mini-film in its own right. Subtle, intelligent, and it’s even for a decent product, too. If only all commercials could be like this.
A beautiful performance by mime artist Jerome Murat. This one really kept me guessing as to whether there was one person or two (perhaps a midget?). Nicely done!
