Afternoon Delight for the Kiwanis

Posted in Afternoon Delight, Performances on Wednesday, August 9, 2006

Afternoon Delight (Mary, Shirley, Ellie and Jackie) were invited to entertain at a dinner for the Kiwanis Club. The dinner was held at the Shrine Club on August 9th. We were met there by Irma Diesen, who was instrumental in having us come to entertain the group.

The audience was very receptive and participated eagerly in a sing along midway through the performance. The quartet sang several chorus songs, including I’m Still Havin’ Fun, Please Don’t Talk About Me, This Is The Army and God Bless America, to name a few. Grandma’s Featherbed was done on request.

Announcements about our upcoming show, A Night at the Music Box, were made by Shirley Carson, and flyers were distributed to the audience by Ellie Batchelor. After the performance, 50/50 tickets were sold to those who indicated they’d like to buy them, and show tickets were also made available to anyone interested.

Shirley Carson used to be a member of the Kiwanis Club, and they say she will be again sometime in the future. Obviously, they all knew her and she knew them. The Kiwanis Club will definitely support the Ladybirds in their upcoming show in September.
