Ladybirds Barbershop Harmony Singers

A Night at the Music Box Report

Posted in News on Saturday, October 7, 2006

At the rehearsal on October 5, 2006, the Ladybirds were still on cloud nine over the success of their show. The still pictures and the digital video taken by Ken Batchelor and Frank Batchelor turned out really great, too. The ladies seemed to want to just talk and reminisce about the show at this practice.

Sandy Daughton, who is still fighting germs, which kept her from attending several rehearsals just prior to the show, is still harboring some of those germs. She and several others of the Ladybirds are hacking, clearing their throats, sneezing, and just not feeling 100% since their supreme efforts on September 9th when they presented a simply wonderful barbershop show for the community.

Shirley Chisholm, treasurer of the Ladybirds, has been diligently preparing a report so that the Ladybirds will know just HOW successful the show really was. As mentioned on this site and in all the publication materials regarding the show, The Western Maryland Food Bank was to benefit financially from the show proceeds, but no one really knew just how successful the show would be until she presented her report at last night’s rehearsal, which turned out to be more of a “gab fest,” as the group viewed a draft of disc one of a two-disc DVD set that Ken Batchelor is creating to commemorate the event.

The two-disc DVD set, which will be made available to chorus members, includes the music performed by the Ladybirds Chorus and the five quartets who performed that evening. As most DVD’s have a great deal more data than just the musical selections or movie, as the case may be, this set is no exception. It will include a fifteen minute slide show with accompanying soundtrack, credits, an about section for each performing group, pre-show pictures showing the staging with props, script presentation by Andee Thompson, emcee, detailed “thanks” article, all fifty-two pages of the show program, and more. The DVD is still under construction as of this writing.

Back to Shirley’s report — The total income from the show was $5,592.00! The expenses of the show amounted to $2,554.91. Therefore, as all profits are to be given to the Western Maryland Food Bank, their amount will be $3,037, plus the $247.00 they received from their half of the 50/50 drawing. Additionally, foodstuffs amounting to 150 pounds were collected and donated to the food bank, as well.
