Posted in Performances on Tuesday, April 24, 2007

The Ladybirds were notified about the Inwood Men’s Show to be held at Musselman High School in Inwood, West Virginia, on April 14th. A number of the group signed up to attend the show, but in the end, only Mary Schaver, Liz & Jim West, and Ellie & Frank Batchelor did so.

Mary said at one point, “Where else could I go for a dinner and an evening of entertainment for $10?” That is certainly true. We arrived in Inwood about 4:45 p.m. in time for the spaghetti dinner which was held before the show. We were among the first to arrive and Frank even helped John Fisher and his wife haul food for the Afterglow and presents to be used as door prizes into the building. Liz and Jim drove separately but joined us at our table when they arrived.

The Ladybirds were invited once again to entertain at the annual dinner of the Senior Connection at the Braddock Center (Sacred Heart Hospital) on April 23, 2007. The chorus has been preparing a special program for this venue, including two new songs: Hospital Gown and Meet Me In St. Louis, Louis.

A number of the chorus members were not available to sing with the group for this gig, but those who came did a fine job. The program announcements were handled by Betty Twigg, who also was featured in Hospital Gown. She wore a hospital gown and an artificial butt for this comedy parody of Alice Blue Gown. Betty changed into her “getup” during the sing-along and came through the door as Ellie announced, “Our next song will be Hospital Gown.” You would have to see and hear this number to appreciate it!

Shirley Carson Update

Posted in News on Monday, April 23, 2007

We are so happy to report that Shirley Carson has been home from the hospital for just over a week now. She is doing quite well and hopes to return to regular rehearsals this coming week. She was very weak when she first got home and her friend Erma Robertson spent several nights with her; Shirley discovered early on that she could get up and to the bathroom on her own and that she could manage to get up and down the seven steps that separate her living room from the rest of her apartment. She has been going up and down those steps three or four times a day. That’s good exercise for her. Also, she plans to take her walker and go up to the grounds of the Red Cross, next door to her house, and do some walking to strengthen her leg muscles.
