The Ladybirds were invited once again to entertain at the annual dinner of the Senior Connection at the Braddock Center (Sacred Heart Hospital) on April 23, 2007. The chorus has been preparing a special program for this venue, including two new songs: Hospital Gown and Meet Me In St. Louis, Louis.

The program announcements were handled by Betty Twigg, who also was featured in Hospital Gown. She wore a hospital gown and an artificial butt for this comedy parody of Alice Blue Gown. Betty changed into her “getup” during the sing-along and came through the door as Ellie announced, “Our next song will be Hospital Gown.” You would have to see and hear this number to appreciate it! The audience howled when Betty strutted back and forth before the audience and up and down the aisles—especially when she “mooned” the whole crowd! Indeed, the new song was a hit that the Ladybirds will no doubt use frequently in the future.

Other selections performed this night included: The Irish Blessing, We Sing Our Hearts Out, Play A Simple Melody, and Meet Me In St. Louis, Louis (as mentioned above). Bringing the first portion of the show to a conclusion, was the quartet Three Katz & A Mouse, performing Let Me Call You Sweetheart.

A sing-along was held with Frank Batchelor handling the sound system and playing the soundtrack for each of five songs, including two patriotic numbers. Everyone was invited to sing along, and individuals were given an opportunity to sing into the microphone and be a star for a few minutes. They all seemed to enjoy participating during their special evening.

The second portion of the performance by the Ladybirds consisted of several comedy numbers, including Hospital Gown (as mentioned above), I’m Still Having Fun, and This Is The Army. The final song wished the group a safe trip to their homes—the song was entitled Sing Your Way Home.

We sorely missed our bass singer, Shirley Carson, who is recovering from surgery at this time; Sandy Daughton is also suffering with health issues, as is Shirley Chisholm and Carol Harr. Margie Mouse is currently in Florida for a two-month stay and Helen Price was unable to attend tonight’s gig.

The Senior Connection attendees thanked the Ladybirds profusely and said how much they enjoyed the program. Those guests who sang into the microphone thanked the Ladybirds for letting them participate, and any number of people from the audience said how much they enjoyed the jokes told by Betty Twigg.

Thanks, ladies for a good performance and a fun performance. As Beth Messenger said, “You all look like spring and we love to hear you sing!”
