Summer Picnic
The Ladybirds met at Betty Twigg’s house for their Summer Picnic on Thursday, September 13th. Everyone brought a covered dish, and Betty supplied the place, the drinks, and the paper products for the event. There was food a-plenty, including meatballs, quesadillas, pasta salads, lettuce salad, macaroni, potato salad, cole slaw and lots of sweet stuff, too! For dessert there was: brownies, cookies, fudge, eclair cake, cherry pizza, and more, more, more! As Liz, said, “I won’t have to eat for two days!”

The Ladybirds at the Summer Picnic
Everyone enjoyed the food, the company and the singing! The group practiced songs they plan to perform for the Eastern Star on September 30th. Even without music, they did quite well with Hey, Good Lookin’, I Don’t Know Why, Alexander’s Ragtime Band, San Francisco Bay Blues, May You Always and Music, Music, Music. Three Katz & A Mouse even sang Edelweiss, and then Afternoon Delight sang Dearie! Several sing along songs for the September gig were also sung this evening. Additionally, a token Christmas song was sung in preparation for the upcoming season—Up On The Housetop! Ellie plans to use that as a learning song in early October when they have a “Ready, Let’s Grow” Open House for prospective members. Plans for that are in the works!
There were twelve people present for the picnic, and they discussed several dates and/or date revisions. Goodwill Menonite Home, for instance, will be on October 11th rather than October 25, as the group had first thought. Also, the Southend Business Association Christmas Party will be on December 13th, rather than December 11th. Plans for the Somerset trip on October 6th were the topic of discussion as well. Jennifer Bennett was conspicuously absent from the picnic and recent sing-out because of her health problems, which continue to keep her in a state of exhaustion. She was sad that she wasn’t up to attending, but no sadder than the ladies were. She was sorely missed, and will continue to be in the prayers of the Ladybirds; she really has enjoyed singing with the group and is hoping to be back as soon as possible.
The Ladybirds were very grateful to Betty for inviting us to her home for the picnic, and once again, a very pleasant and productive social gathering of the singers went off without a flaw. Thanks everyone for coming and for your contributions to the feast!
