What might have resulted in a cancellation of rehearsal on July 24th turned out to be a very pleasant practice session for the Ladybirds. It became apparent when the group arrived at their usual rehearsal place, Park Place United Methodist Church, that the “keeper of the key” was not present and had not given the key to anyone else so that we could get into the building.

As a group we pondered what we might do - try to reach a representative of the church, cancel practice, or sing in the parking lot; about that time, Betty Twigg said, “I could make a suggestion.” Then she said, “We could go back to my house and practice there.”

Legislate And Learn

Tampa - Standing before a panel of state lawmakers Saturday, high school sophomore T.J. Mouse proposed legislation that would require students to take a driver’s education course to graduate.

He has seen too many “stupid teenager mistakes” in his school’s parking lat not to care about this issue, he said.

“A lot of guys think they can drive 75 mph and still maintain control of a car,” said Mouse, who attends Chamberlain High School. “I’ve even received text messages from friends who I know were driving, and I messaged them back to put their phones away.”

Mouse was among 15 Hillsborough County high school students at the fourth annual Ought To Be A Law student bill drafting competition held at the school district’s downtown administration building…

Shirley Carson Post-Op

Shirley Carson had her hip replaced on February 19th at Memorial Hospital. She did very well, having had a spinal rather than general anesthesia for the procedure. The hospital personnel had her up and walking the same day as the surgery, and her formal rehabilitation therapy began the next morning. Her friends and family visited her frequently throughout her stay in the hospital, and her brother Bob called her everyday to talk with her during her confinement…

The Ladybirds invite you to attend an Open House program at Park Place United Methodist Church in the narrows, LaVale, Maryland. The program, known as Ready, Let’s Grow, will introduce prospective members of the Ladybirds Barbershop Harmony Singers to four-part harmony.

Weave harmonies around timeless melodies, some of your old favorites. We sing for charities, parties, business associations, churches and clubs. We enjoy fellowship with each other and the hard work involved in learning to make chords ring! We would like to invite you to come and visit us and see if you like us and we like you.
